Glazed green clay molcajete, 20 cm in diameter, brought directly from Santa Maria Atzompa, Oaxaca, Mexico. Ideal for preparing sauces, guacamole and as a container for serving all kinds of sauces, creams and snacks.
Santa María Atzompa is a Zapotec town that has been producing pottery for at least 2,000 years. In the first half of the century XX Atzompa was the main producer of pottery in the region and its products were shipped to all parts of Mexico and exported to the United States. Today, a large part of the population's families continue to make a living from the production of green clay, in addition to growing corn.
This is an object produced by hand using ancestral techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation, and which involves a complex process in its production.
